Hudson Bay Trading Company
Lower Fort Garry was built by the Hudson Bay Trading Company in anticipation of trouble with the Native Americans
living in the area. The trouble never materialized, not a shot was ever fired rom this fort.

Actually known as The Big House, for the governor, postmaster, etc. and their wives and the servants.
The children? Usually at boarding school.

None of these were ever used in battle, none was ever fought. But the stonework! Two lime kilns were nearby, long gone.

The staff lived and worked "downstairs." Scullery maid was the only one with a contract, and her job included
1) making sure all sixteen fireplaces stayed burning and 2) emptying and cleaning all the chamber pots and commode chairs.
