One of the places where the swale cut by wagon trains traveling along the Santa Fe Trail are visible.

Wagons traveled two-by-two and wore a wide rut in the land that can still be seen. The highways we traeled from Dodge City to Santa Fe criss-crossed with the Santa Fe Trail and its South branch, the Cimarron Trail. It's not a lot, just a long swale visible in the photo running from left to right up the hill.
